Stories for the ones who feel out of place.
Before film came theatre — years of acting and dubbing that still shape how she works with performers.
Anna Ciotti is an Italian filmmaker based in Barcelona. She trained in Video Design and Filmmaking at IED Rome, and is currently deepening her practice in directing at ESCAC.
Character construction matters to her as much as the frame — cinema, to her, is a way of telling the people who feel out of place, and making them feel seen. She works across auteur cinema, documentary and branded content, following projects from conception through post-production, though directing remains the direction she's growing toward.
Her reference points range from the realism of documentary to the surrealism of Lanthimos and Kaufman — filmmakers who use simple images to strike deep. A teenage exchange year in Thailand left her endlessly curious about people, and about the different ways we tell our own stories — probably where everything else began.
